About
Welcome to Ace of Wealth!
About Ace of Wealth:
Ace of Wealth is dedicated to demystifying personal finances. I started Ace of Wealth in January of 2010. The topics I focus on include psychology, spending, saving, behavior economics, debt, and earning.
I have an intense interest in discovering why humans behave the way we do and I hope to explore this in great detail here on this blog. Understanding why we do things is just as important as knowing what to do. This will be an incredible learning experience, and I hope that you will learn as much from me, as I from you.
In the sea of other personal finance blogs out there, I will stand out because of this emphasis of the human element. If I cared only about the finance side, I’d be writing about hedge funds or something. It’s important to remember that personal finances is more than just the math. I hope that I can convey this clearly through our journey.
Posting Frequency:
I will work hard to post at least 3 times a week with engaging, fresh content. I typically shoot for new posts on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Occasionally I will post shorter more interactive posts on Tuesday or Thursday. Also, I make weekly link roundups on the weekend which features the greatest posts around the personal finance blogosphere for the week. So please subscribe or come back often!
About Me:
For now, you can call me Ace. I’m still unsure how much personal information to divulge about myself (call me paranoid), but here is what I will tell you. I am a twenty-something year old who lives in the Bay area in California.
First and foremost, I will make mistakes. I hope that when I do make them, they are grandiose and epic, so that we can all point and laugh at it. I also have terrible grammar. I’ll do my best to catch spelling mistakes (the squiggly red lines help) but no promises.
I’ll be honest. When I was young I didn’t have passion for writing. In fact if I went back in time and told past young me that I would be writing a blog, I would have said, “What’s a blog?” That being said, here I am, writing about my passion: personal finance.
My love for finances started at a young age. The first book I read on personal finance was Rich Dad, Poor Dad. While it may not provide many concrete actionable items, at the time I was in love with the concepts the book presented. It made me dream big, and if for no other reason, I think that alone was worth it. Since them I’ve picked up a number of personal finance books ranging from investing, to saving, to budgeting. Most recently I started reading numerous psychology books, and I am loving the interaction between money and psychology.
I would love to hear from you guys! If you have any questions, comments, concerns please contact me!
My Biggest Financial Mistake:
My PS3. I bought the PS3 when it first came out. I had a grand plan of selling it on ebay right when it came out. I went to the store on the pre-order day an hour and half before it opened. I was the third one in line at the store. The manager came out and handed us numbered tickets and told us to come back when the store opened. I went back to the store a few minutes after it opened. Here’s how the conversation went:
Store Dude: So the other customers came already, so you’ll be number 6 on the list. But don’t worry, we’re getting in 9, so you have nothing to worry about.
(Queue screeching breaks sound)
Me: Wait, wait, I was third, and my ticket says three. Can you put me down as three?
Store Dude: Sorry they’re already entered in the system. There’s nothing I can do.
Me: Okay….
Fast forward a few weeks to the day before the release. I get a call from Game Stop. “I’m sorry sir, but we only received a shipment of 5 PS3s and you’re currently number 6 on the list. So you will be the first to get one as soon as we get another shipment.” You can imagine how I felt at this point. Dunce cap, anyone?
By the time I received my PS3, the selling price was less than half of what it was on launch day, but it was still a cool $1800. I was hurt that I missed out on the $3500 that PS3s were selling on launch day. I convinced myself to wait, to see if the price would go up. Fast forward 4 years, and here I am with a PS3 sitting in my TV stand.
