Festivals Galore! | Weekend Links

by Ace on July 11, 2010

I hope all of you are having a wonderful weekend. My girlfriend are enjoying a couple festivals happening around us this weekend. The weather is finally starting to feel like summer, and it was really nice to be able to walk outside this afternoon. Here are some of the great articles I found around the personal finance blogosphere this week. Take some time to check them out, because they’re all fantastic.

Links Around the Personal Finance Blogosphere

First, Joe over at Personal Finance By The Book (got it right this time, sorry Joe! ), announced that his blog turned one recently! This is a remarkable accomplishment! Keep up the great work Joe. Ace of Wealth is about six months old now, but there was a stint of about 2-3 months where I was MIA (don’t worry! I’m back for good ;-) ). There is also a giveaway happening as part of the GRABBBR network, so definitely check it out to enter for some great prizes.

Money Under 30 has a great article about creating a new home fund. This is great because people often focus only on the price of the home. It’s important to remember that new homes normally have a number of additional expenses.

Lazy Man and Money wrote a piece about saving a bunch of money on his most recent laptop purchase. I like his technique because he was patient, and waited until he could get exactly what he wanted.

Ben at Money Smart Life wrote a highly informative piece about the new bank account overdraft rules. He does a great job making pointing out the other fees that do apply.

Wise Bread has some great advice for new graduates. I love that this piece is not only packed with information but has a wonderful running metaphor comparing it all to dancing.

Dinks Finance wrote about some great ideas of what do with your bonus money. I agree with Kristina that the half-half rule is a great idea. Even better, if you can do a 75% savings – 25% spending, you’ll be in even better shape. The important thing is you enjoy some of the money, but save as much as possible so you can enjoy it even more later.

Get Rich Slowly has a thoughtful provoking piece called, Worth More Than Money: Taking A Detour on the Road to Riches. Sierra made the decision to spend money to visit her family, but took many steps to save as much money as possible on her trip.

Last but not least, Squirrelers asks the question of How Much Would You Pay to Lose 10 Pounds? He also asks the reverse question of how much money you would pay to not gain 10 pounds. What makes it interesting is that research shows that people are much likely to pay more to avoid loss. What about you?

First Guest Post for Ace of Wealth

This week I had my first guest post ever at Cash Money Life in a piece called I Am an Eat-Out-Aholic. I hope to continue this trend with at least a couple guest posts a month.

Carnivals I Participated In

Finally, Ace of Wealth was featured in a number of carnivals this week.

Do You Fall for This Pricing Trick was featured in the Festival of Frugality #237 over at Funny About Money.

Personal Finance is not Always About Math was featured in the Carnival of Personal Finance #264 over at My Journey to Millions.

Reaching Your Financial Goals was featured in the Best of Money Carnival over at Wealth Pilgrim as well as the Carnival of the Vanities over at Dodgeblogium.
